vsphere converter - a file I/O error occurred while accessing
Hello,
I am trying to move a virtual machine from VMware Server 1 (Windows 2003 host) to a ESXi 4 host. I am using vSphere converter (Converter Standalone Client ver. 4.0.1).
The source is "VMware Workstation or other VMware virtual machine". I browse using \\vmwareservername\c$\ to the location where .vmx and .vmdk files are located and when I click next I receive an error " A file I/O error occurred while accessing"
Any advice?
Thanks.

You may want to install the vconverter within the guest and push to the ESX. Give it a shot and let us know, this will avoid most issues

Sure, I was thinking about using "powered-on machine" option as a source, but it bugs me, since I was able to move different virtual machine from the same host with no issues. I am starting to think that the vmdk file size is too big. Is 30GB OK for a .vmdk?
30GB for a vmdk is small, we have customers with 400-600GB VMDKs

Thanks, so any idea why the error message?

This may be it! I do have a snapshot, let me check!
