Presentation server 4.0 IMA service will not start, gives error 2147090374
Hi all, I am having an issue with my only Presentation server standard 4.0 Win2k3 server. I moved the database from one server to another (outside of the farm) and when I try to start the IMA service it gives:
Windows could not start the IMA on local computer. For more info, review the system event log. If this is a non-Microsoft service, contact the service vendor, and refer to service-specific error code - 2147090374
I can run DSmaint config and it connects to the data store with the new configuration settings successfully. I did notice that the Metaframe COM service is hanging. Don't know what the deal is with that.
I also ran DSmaint recreateLHC and it finished successfully.
I have checked to make sure that the ODBC connection is good on the server as well by testing the connectivity with the SQL account created for the DS DB.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks all.

Same error. I have no connectivity.

I performed this:
Examine the following Windows Registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWAR E\Citrix\I MA\Runtime \Currently LoadingPlu gin
If there is no value specified in the CurrentlyLoadingPlugin portion of the above Windows Registry entry, then either the IMA Service could not connect to the data store or the local host cache is missing or corrupt.
If a CurrentlyLoadingPlugin value is specified, the IMA Service made a connection to the data store and the value displayed is the name of the IMA Service subsystem that failed to load.
It was empty.

I went through that already. I will look again.
Again, how do I get connectivity? I think that is the root issue here...

You can use dsmain /config to recreate the mf20.dsn file.
Also did you try to create a system dsn connection (ODBC) to the database.
Sometimes you have to recreate the system dsn to get connection to the database again

Tried ODBC test connection to the data store and it was successful. So there is connectivity to the DB and from ODBC, but not necessarily from mf20.dsn file.
I will try to recreate.

DSmaint config works:

So what happened when you restart IMA

same error as above. There is no restart. I just can't start it. It fails to start with that code.
What is the name of your Db? Sometimes DSMAINT doesn't mind a DB with a space inside but IMA service doesn't like it. Flushed the DB and recreated a new DB without any space in the name

Ok, new situation here.
I brought up an old virtual citrix server that I had in the farm, but it was causing intermittent issues so I just shut it down. Once I brought it up, the web services are now up (of course the content is out of date). The IMA service is started on that server. It is connected to the database. I am willing to accept this, BUT, it now shows that I cannot log into the farm.
Prior to all of this I removed the administrator password using the slim jim utility. I have no idea how to log into the farm now. Supposedly it is to reset the farm admin as the local administrator acct. Not positive on this one because I have tried it and it doesn't log on. Just says "failed to log on to farm"

It says that when I try to access the Management console

Ok, I copied the IMA registry key from the virtual server over to the real server and now the IMA service is up and running. Started right up!
But now, I still cannot figure out how to log into or reset the administrative permissions on the Farm so I can login through the management console.
Again, I used the slim Jim utility as per another recomendation I got from EE. Either way, the tool did wipe out the password on the farm and reset the permissions, but I do not know who to logon with now....
Thanks

If you have the username. go to Active directory users and computers and reset that account...then give it a try

I'm not sure which account to use. I thought I was trying to use the local administrator account to the box. Which account in ADUC are you referring to?
the account you use to log in to citrix server
ASKER
Yes, this is the one that I am using. For some reason it gives the could not log into farm error
ASKER
Ok, well basically I have wiped out the other citrix server. Is there a way that I can transfer the applications and everything from the working virtual citrix server to the newly rebuilt server?

hmm, looks like it may be easier to just recreate.

Is there somewhere to see the applications and policies, etc without going into the presentation server management console?
For policies go to Presentation server console
ASKER
without going to presentation server. That was part of the question above.
open up CMD and run qfarm
another option would be write a script to get all the apps
ASKER
This would have to be something that is given to me. Right now I can only have 1 farm up at a time When I bring the other (good) server up it cannot start the IMA service because the DS id has changed from when I just installed the new server.
I backed up the store before doing all of this, but now I have a mess.
I can get the good server up by restoring the backed up store, but does the script actually export the apps and settings to a file that I can just import to the new server???
Thanks

yes.... you can write a script to actually clone all the apps to your new farm ....and i am pretty sure its on www.dabcc.com

Turned out that the DS is hosed. Whenever I did get the servers IMA services started I just could not login to the farm. I was getting some errors that our Citrix contractors haven't even come across before. So rather than opening a futile call to Citrix I just re published the apps. It was a good thing that this wasn't that critical.
Thanks for your help on this one rohantendulkar!
I'll give you the points just for sticking with me.
