Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.

Hi rsivanandan:

It is looks that this is the right place...
However, I tried this before - disactivating the "use drop shadow" box
than checked the box again and.... no affect on the icons' fonts blue background on my screen.

Any other idea?

Roni.

Can you try this then?

right click on the desktop, go
to properties then desktop, then customise desktop, then the web tab and
unckeck everything, that should not be there

If it doesn't work then there are tools to get it working.

One thing you can try is http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Download tweakUI and fix the icons.

you might want to also check these additional settings suggested by readers in the comments. You cant be displaying a web page as your background. To check this, right-click on the desktop and choose Properties. Select Customize desktop on the Desktop tab, then select the Web tab on the desktop items window and deselect any web pages that are shown.

You need to make sure that High Contrast is not selected under Accessibility \ Display Options in your Control Panel.
