Lost domain connections

I have a MS Server 2008 domain setup.  IT appears that around 5:30 - 6pm the users loose connectivity to the server.  If they are logged in to an application hosted on the server they loose connection to that app and everything else.
If they log off and back on all is okay.
I am not onsite, I am a consultant for this company.  I have also noticed that if I try to RDP to one of their desktops after hours I can not connect, but can during the day.
I did see where the NIC was being controlled by the OS so maybe that was it, not sure yet just did it.

Thanks

what show the switch logs?

Have you checked if there is a login/logout time policy configured for the domain?

I tried looking for that policy but did not see it.
Where is it?  Server 08
I started with Experts Exchange in 2004 and it's been a mainstay of my professional computing life since. It helped me launch a career as a programmer / Oracle data analyst

OK, here is an update from the end user.
Tony,
I left my workstation logged on when I left yesterday; and when I arrived this morning I could not get into the network, but I could go online.
The following error message appeared when I tried to open a mapped drive:
H:\is not accessible. The system detected a possible attempt to compromise security.
