Aging and maxed out core network, need recommendations
Hi.
Looking for recommendations on a modular solution to replace aging fixed port/stack solution. Currently all refurbished Cisco (no EIGRP) and am willing to move (because of price) to get it upgraded. HP Procurve looks very attractive with that lifetime warranty.
Currently have a various collection of Cisco 3750 and 3548's.
I have requirements of;
200 ports (min 10/100 + POE)
24 ports (must be 1000 + POE)
with additional 20% or so to grow.
I'd really like to get some real experiences versus just someone else's wish list.

You can't run gigabit ethernet with PoE. 1000BT requires all 4 pairs.
PoE can use either 2-pairs in ModeA, or all 4 pairs in ModeB.
But, with the wiring scheme for 1000BT, you can't mix it with PoE.

Someone please educate me: What would be the application for that many POE clients?

In order of quantity:
Phones.
Cameras.
Wireless access points.
Not unusual to have NN employees with NN + 5% or 10% phones. Think of lobbies, hallways, conference rooms, guest phones in executive offices.
NN employees could have from 1/10(NN) cameras to 4*NN cameras, depending on the facility requirements and staff size.
So, 50 employees in a small business with high-value product handling could have:
60 phones
50 cameras
5 WAP
That gives 115 PoE ports. You can't buy the exact number of ports, so figure 48-port switches.
That would be 3 x 48 = 144 ports of PoE for a 50-person office.
PoE can use either 2-pairs in ModeA, or all 4 pairs in ModeB.
