Toshiba Power Saver Error

Toshiba Satellite A105-4704 laptop will not boot into Windows. It has power and gets as far as the windows splash screen with the status bar and then reboots and goes to the advanced startup options. If I try to repair from an XP CD I get a blue screen with the error pci.sys. At one point I got an error that read "Toshiba Power Saver. A fatal error has occurred. This program will be terminated. Code 0x0."

I have tried repairing the registry from the UBCD and tried running chkdsk but since it won't boot it will not get to the point of checking the disk.

Please advise.

Thank you!!

Looks like your pci.sys file got corrupted.
You need to boot into the repair console, delete the file from C:\Windows\system32\drivers.

Then copy a new one from C:\Windows\Driver Cache\i386\sp1.cab.  You will need to extract the file from cab.

Therein lies the problem. I get the pci.sys error on a blue screen when I try to boot into the recovery console.
Did you try booting in safe mode or with the automatic restart disabled? What happened?
When trying to boot into safe mode about a half a dozen lines of code appear, the computer hangs and then I have to power it down to get anything to happen.
I think it's time to start checking hardware. I don't believe that it's any kind of software or drivers.

Check your memory, the easiest way is to change it or try one module at a time if you can.

If that's not it try removing or disabling any devices you don't need to get into windows. If you can't disable the wireless adapter in BIOS remove it.

Post back if you need help doing any of this,
There was one memory module and I swapped it out three times now. I removed the wireless adapter and disabled it in bios. I disabled everything else I could think of but the problem still persists. No boot into windows and the same error when booting form the CD.
I am about ready to call it a night so I am going to list a few more things you can try.
Remove the cdrom to boot from the hard drive and vica versa.
Same with the battery and power adapter.
Are you sure it's not overheating.
We are running out of things to try but I will sleep on it and check back on you in the morning.
test your Ram and disk, to be sure about your basics
download ubcd, and pick the disk diag you need and memtest86+

The computer would not boot with the UBCD, it got to a point where there was a blank blue screen and it hung up. I took the HDD out and attached it to another system and got the message that the file directory is corrupted or unreadable. There are a lot of pictures on this HDD that need to be recovered so I guess I have an additional problem. Help!!
OK here is more information - I put in a different HDD and the UBCD booted right up, no problem. So, I thought I would try the Windows CD. I did and got the same pci.sys error. So I put the UBCD back in and am currently running memtest. I will let you know.

It is a SATA drive and this laptop has only one port. I used a hard drive enclosure to connect it to another computer and that is where I the drive not accessible and the file directory is corrupted or unreadable error.
Memtest showed no errors.
