Virtual Machine won't turn off
Hello,
This is frustrating. You would think that Microsoft products would work well with Microsoft products. I am trying my hardest to remain a fan but I am wasting more time just geting started while working through issues.
I am running Windows 2008 Server and Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 Enterprise Edition.
I had to go through a group policy klludge just to get Virtual Server to install on Windows 2008.
Now that it is installed, I decided to create one virtual machine. I started it and it is at the dos prompt. I cannot kill the process. The only way to stop the firstual machine is to turn off virtual server services or just reboot. What's up with that?
I am about ready to jump ship. I wonder if running VS on W2k8 has anything to do with this. Anyway, is there some way to make this fricken thing run like it is supposed to?
Please advise.

Is there a reason you do not want to use HyperV?

Very interesting. I just installed it. So, how to you manage it remotely without having to be on the 2008 Server. I haven't found that yet.
There are a few ways you can accomplish that.
Using RDP to get a remote session on the server.
Installing the RSAT tools to manage the remote server on a workstation.
Using SCVMM to manage the HyperV role.
http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/virtualmachinemanager/en/us/default.aspx
SCVMM provides additional functionality as well. There is 260+ day trial available but it does cost if you wish to use it.

Great. You definitely saved my day. I appreciate it. I don't know what the RSAT tools are so let me know what you mean when you get a chance. Thank you for your help. I was just about ready to downgrade to 2003 Server and could not since my new server doesn't even have a floppy port available for the RAID adapter. I was beginning to whine. Thanks again.

He saved my day. Hyper V is definitely the way to go on Windows 2008.
RSAT is the remote server administration tools. You can google RSAT for more info. Here are a couple links for x86 and x64 Windows Vista but I'm not positive if these links are addons or complete RSAT installations.
