Two main reasons why an Exchange store would dismount. Either you are low on disk space on the drive the Exchange database resides or you've hit the default limit for the Exchange database (which can be increased to 72GB for Exchange 2003 standard). How big is the physical size of your mailstore edb and stm files combined? Also, which version of Exchange are you using?

P.S. Exchange dismounts the store to protect itself from corruption, best to fix the problem rather than automatically remounting the store each time.

If the store dismounts there should be errors. You need to find them, then we can take it from there.

Iam running exchange 2003 sp2.The exchange databases are only 25 gig total and I already extend my 72 gig. I also can't find any errors within event viewer relating to dismount of mailbox store.

Did you also check the system log? Does the Information Store or other Exchange services crash for example? <br />

Are there any scheduled tasks or jobs (e.g. backups) that may be causing this?

And if you run a file-based virus scanner, make sure all Exchange-related stuff is excluded or try disabling it for a while to see if it makes a difference.

Possible causes for the IS dismounting:<br />
<br />
- lack of drive spave on the drive where the IS database files are stored (as already mentioned above)<br />
- lack of drive space on the drive where Windows log files are stored (not necessarily the same drive as used for Exchange files above)<br />
- too many Exchange log files being accumulated and not commited to the IS i.e. backup processes failing<br />
- corruption in the store, in which case running ISINTEG and ESEUTIL might help detect and repair the problem<br />

More info from your eventvwr will help pinpoint the issue.

Here is the error that i was getting causing mailbox store to crash:<br />

Exchange store 'First Storage Group\Mailbox Store ': The logical size of this database (the logical size equals the physical size of the .edb file and the .stm file minus the logical free space in each) is 30 GB. This database size has exceeded the size limit of 30 GB. <br />
This database will be dismounted immediately. <br />
&nbsp;I still have 5.31gig free space. what should I do?<br />

P.S. If you only have 5GB of free space left you also need to consider expanding or creating a new array for this server at some point in the non too distant future to prevent the store dismounting when you eventually run out of disk space altogether.

that is odd, i just checked and it was set for 30gig. i guess awhile back i only set for 30 gig. is the default 16 gig for exchange 2003 sp2 without changing registry? &nbsp;<br />

Glad it's sorted. Might be an idea to increase it to 35 GB while the disk space is still low to stop it using up all the available space.
