Restoring my Quicken file with a Q3.DIR file

I backed up my Quicken file using the Backup function, but when I went to restore it, the .dir file wasn't even seen.

Now I'm wondering what I've done - if I even backed it up at all.

Anybody out there tell me how I can restore my file using what I thought was the backup process (the Q3.dir)?

Thanks!

ASKER

The Q3.dir was created with the same app that I'm now trying to restore, so that' dynamic is in place.

What else could I be missing?

The file type being looked for by Quicken, whether I'm doing a "Validate" or a "Restore" function, is .qdf, qb1, qdb or qdt. It's not even considering .dir and that's my dilemma.

How can I get Quicken to recognize .dir?

BTW: Your suggestions did work as far as my being able to successfully choose the validate option, but Quicken still couldn't "see" the file.

Supertech,

I was able to learn that the .dir file is generated as part of the back up process, it isn't the backup file in and of itself. Kind of had that figured out, but once it dawned on me that the necessary files HAD to be somewhere on my external hard drive, I was able to find them.

Thanks for the feedback!
