Exchange 2003 + OWA + SSL not working

Exchange 2003 and OWA working fine.  Added 3rd party certificate without difficulty.  Made the change in the virtual Exchange Directory to require SSL.  Testing internally to avoid firewall issues, we cannot get a response using https://mail.mydomain/exchange (using the actual domain of course). "Explorer cannot display the webpage" and no login prompt.  The DNS entry is fine and reverting to non-SSL works.  Any clue?

No, same error.

The certificate is issued to mail.mydomain.net (substituting the correct domain name), has a valid date and is associated with the default website on the server to which mail.mydomain.net points.

You don't need the require SSL setting to use https.
Did you test the configuration before making that change?

If you browse internally to the server name only (https://servername) do you get an SSL warning prompt?
If not, then I would suspect that the certificate is corrupt.

Substituting a selfssl certificate worked while the commercial certificate does not.  It would therefore appear that there is something wrong with the commercial certificate.
