Connecting iPhone to SBS 2003 OWA

I have an SBS 2003 R2 server.  I am trying to connect Iphones to the OWA in exchange.  I can connect to OWA over the web and with blackberry phone but not Iphones.  I have downloaded the Iphone configuration utility and tried to get the certificated to install on the iPhone but it does not seem to do it.  When I try to connect with using the iphone, I get to the point where it asked to accept the certificate, but it will not accept it and stops there.  This is frustrating because I can connect many other phones to it.  Does anyone know of a tool that will trace the hand shake process when the iphone is connecting?  Either on the SBS server or iPhone will help.  Is there a way to turn off web certificates on SBS 2003, probably not a good idea?  I have gone through many setup instructions and none work.  ATT will not give any help on this what so ever.  One thing I have not done is setup a mobile device in exchange, because ATT will not tell me what the name of the SMTP to SMS gateway is.  Does anyone know this?

Is the certificate self-signed (by server) or public (by verisign/godaddy/thawte)?

issued by the sbs server
I have been trying to look up the official documentation for this but I believe it is high-recommended (if not actually required) to have a public signed certificate for PushMail setup on the iPhone.

It might be worth giving this a try

Is your current OWA setup via HTTP or HTTPS?

https
kk. Know it has to be HTTPS, still can not find clarification on signing (public/private)

Have you tried the walk thru on the link?

Well, I am presuming it is for the .local.  I am thinking once the username and password handshake is done, then it will be talking with the loca, right?  I could be wrong.

This worked regarding the certificate, but I ended up having to rebuild share point and IIS to resolve the issue of connecting to the server.  I had Microsoft do this for me and the completed it after 12 hours of work on there part.
