Server 2008 will no longer install any roles
The server OS is 2008 Enterprise SP2. It currently has the Terminal Services role installed which is working fine.
The problem is I want to install the Fax and Print Server roles and it returns a "Installation Failed" error and refuses to install. I also tried the DNS role and it creates the same error.
As far as I'm aware no Windows updates have failed and it is completely up to date. I've attached the log file but I couldn't find anything meanful that would help solve the problem.

DO you have enough permissions on the server to add the roles.
ASKER
Yes, I've tried as both the Domain Administrator and the Local Administrator accounts. Both fail with the same error.
check your event log at the moment when you get the error message for more details so that we can help you
and try the installation after rebooting the server
ASKER
Rebooting the server didn't help the problem. I rebooted before attempting to install the roles for the two different Administrator users.

I am having the exact same issue. Can't install or uninstall ANY role. I'm on SBS 2008 Standard though. Am on the second day of support with Microsoft and still no resolution. I'm not sure they have a clue either. After they worked a few hours the first day, they asked if I had a good backup because we may have to do a complete restore. I'm not confident MS is going to fix. If we get fixed, I will post back.
after a day and a half diagnosising with microsoft, we gave up and they are refunding my payment. The options they said were to do a full restore from backup, re-install server, or of course do nothing.
Had the same issue. Ran "Sfc /scannow" in the server and added the feature just fine.
We already tried this and at least for us it did not fix it.

we were able to do a complete restore of system "C" drive and system state from a complete backup and all was back to normal. Did have to do some cleanup of AD objects and also had to remove and re-install WSUS and remove and rejoin PCs to domain.
