Getting HP Printers to use https:

khcit used Ask the Experts™
I'm managing the printers using HPs printer management software. I'm looking for the setting to apply SSL to all printers to secure them more on the network so in order to log in you'd have to go to the printer address with the https:, where can this be found in their software?

It might be possible with some HP series printers. What series are you using?

- Some N series printers won't use HTTPS at all (color Laserjet 2000 series etc)
- Some others use an embedded certificate that is embedded in their BIOS so you might get an error through Firefox. Because Firefox extensively check certificates and wont alloy you use a certificate in more than one different place. (Such as K series officejet)
- Some others allow the download of custom SSL certificates ( such as 5000 Series LaserJet)

S it all depends on what printer are you using.

We're using the 4000 series and the 9040MFPs. I managed to enable encryption on all the printers, but am getting a certificate error.
