HI Experts,

My Problem is I have been trying to upgrade from 4.0 to 4.5 and stuck at very first server :-)
I think I have installed advanced edition of 4.5 but I have Resource manager installed along with it and not only on this new server but I can also see this on other 4.0 servers as well.

issue is I have been having some date and time issues on new server with 4.5 which looks like is no one knows how to solve. I'm planning to uninstall 4.5 and reinstall 4.5. my question is by doing this i hope it wouldnt affect any other server on the Farm, they all are 4.0. reason i'm worried is because I see resource manager on other servers too; so does that mean 4.5 server has updated the farm and now it leaves some configuration there or when I uninstall 4.5 on new server it goes away gracefully.

if i dont make any sense please ask; need some as soon as possible.
thanks in advance.

I thought pfcjoker resolved your date/time issue?

Unless you backed up the data store before you did the upgrade to 4.5, there is no way to uninstall 4.5 and undo the changes made to the data store.

Really don't know why you are so concerned about Resource Manager.  Don't worry about it, don't use it and just leave it alone.  Citrix is replacing it in future versions with Edgesight anyway.

The problem with asking questions on EE is we have no way of really knowing your environment.  Are you using Active Directory?  Is your Domain Controller that holds the PDCe FSMO role setup to handle the Time services properly?  Are all your servers fully patched with Windows Updates?  Is possibly a router or some other hardware infrastructure device screwing with time?  Have you used something like Wireshark to see what is happening on the packet level?

The problems you are having is why I, and Citrix and many others, strongly recommend you have a test lab environment.  Having a test lab allows you to test out major changes without impacting your production network.  You can have a simple PC with 2GB of RAM and ample hard drive space to setup a test lab using one of the many free virtualization products available on the market.

We, that is the Experts who try to help here on EE, can only do so much in attempting to answer questions because there is no way we can fully know or understand your entire LAN/WAN environment.  We do our best and that is all we can do.

By the way, you can change editions on the server level.  So if you think you installed the wrong edition (Standard, Advanced, Enterprise, Platinum) change it at the server in the Access Management Console.  It would not hurt to reboot the server after making the change.  Also, Citrix has done away with the Standard edition and license.  You will need to return your licenses to your mycitrix.com account and download the new license file.  Standard is now Advanced.  You can still select the Standard edition during the install and when changing the Edition level for a server but that is only for backwards compatibility.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for you help I have reinstalled 4.5 and made sure I choose advanced version and got rid of resource manager, only reason I was worried about is because I thought what if resource manager is causing date and time issue but obviously it wasn't even after resintalling I had same date and time issue then I installed Rollup pack 3 still the same but Rollup pack 5 fixed it. other reason I was worried was because as you can judge I'm new to citrix and I have been asked to do this upgrade and being a newbie I'm kinda nervous; i didnt want to leave some thing on very first server that i realise later on causing issues.

Regarding other bit as you mentioned about answering questions on EE. I do understand there are many things sometimes you guys have to assume and provide the best solution and I must say you do it pretty well. but then it also comes down to experience and support; like you have been in this industry since quite long but person like me is still a newbie with a very limited support and if people like you on EE wouldnt be there it would be very hard for me to survice n learn.

Yes after this experience and you recommendation I will sure be creating a test environment so that I can do all my experiments and learning before going on production. right now I'm in middle of this upgrade and be very relieved once its over... you see I work in a small company with a very limited cash flow; matter of fact I'm the only one supporting IT in my company of about 150 users and small shops all over the place. oh well lets not go there...
I just wanted to apreciate your help n support and thank you for the guidance.
Cheers
