PSTN FALLBACK

Hi

I have two cisco 3845 routers with CME installed on them.I made a call through WAN from one phone to another. Then i took out the WAN connection and the call went through PSTN.

My question is SRST is used for PSTN fallback.Without SRST why do you think the call goes thru PSTN.

can someone expalin the difference between CME  and SRST exactly.

Hi Deepdraw

MY architecture looks as below

7961 IP PHONE-----ROUTER(CME)------(CLOUD )-----------ROUTER (CME).----7961 IP PHONE.
The cloud has both WAN and PSTN.I have dial peers for these routers and i am currently using 1xxx destination patterns.I gave the  dialpeers for both voip and and for pstn.

MY question is will PSTN fallback works in CME  routers also becoz it is happening in my case.

Thanks for the reply and thanks for letting me know about transtion rules.

Can you tell me whether Call Mangaer Express automatically detects the WAN failure and selects the PSTN route.
I'm not sure if its CME or the ios, the router finds the best match for the number dialed.
If it has a working number it uses that other wise it will use the .T if configured.
This is good example.

HI

can you explain how to set up fallback on router.I am not using call manager.I will be using cme router and other router i will enable srst on cme router.
I think SRST is only used when you are using CUCM. It keeps everything working when the connection is broken. However as you will not be using CUCM this is not an issue.

Hi

So do you think Call Manager Express takes analog path when it detects WAN failure.
Yes
if you have a dial peer  phone number 1001 which is on a remote site and your WAN fails it will try to connect to 1001 by using the next best matching rule.
If you have a .T rule this will be a match for 1001 and you will NOT be connected to your remote site as your local exchange does not have a route for 1001
