Hi There

I have just completed my first build and I have hit a problem with the raid drives.
I have an Asus p6t d V2 motherboard and intel matrix storage manager software, I have done all it says in the manual to create a raid 1 Volume. I am using 2no. 1tb drives.

In windows disk management the disc is saying online but unallocated.

Any advice would be great!

right click on unallocated space and select Create partition. Select size and file system. Then choose quick Format and apply changes. You will get the drive in My Computer.

I only get the option - New simple volume - but this comes up with a simple volume can only be on a single disk?

Windows OS cannot access the lower level Hardware RAID. It sees your drives as one. Do it and never worry.

This is doing what it is supposed to do.  The RAID1 presents a single 1TB disk to the O/S.  (So when/if a disk fails, the O/S won't crash, and you can then replace the failed disk w/o losing anything).  Just treat this disk like any other disk drive under your O/S.   Partition it (or use the whole disk if you are inclined), build the appropriate file system and move on.

If you are running a supported O/S, then there may be a device driver/addon software to monitor RAID health w/o having to go through the BIOS.  Install it once the O/S is set up.

Volume or partition - no diff. Go on with new volume creation. BTW, the fact you get simple volume indicates that you converted the drive to dynamic. Revert it to basic. No need in dynamic drive.
