Laptop has local network access but not internet
Hi, I have a very, very puzzling issue. We have a laptop (Vista OS) (one of several) and this specific laptop can access local network resources (shares, etc., etc.) but cannot access the internet. It is only occuring with this laptop and is only ocurring on-site. If I take the laptop home, it works fine.
Basically, the network is setup as follows. Win 2003 DC, a firewall/router which has DHCP enabled. On the firewall router for the lan we have specified the DNS and WINS to point to the Domain Controller.
The laptop logs in to the local area network and works fine on the local area network but does not have internet access. Other computers on-site which are configured the exact same way work fine.
The only thing the user mentioned was that he was prompted this morning to change his network password.
Any help would be appreciated as I am spinning my wheels here.

I did try issuing a static IP however that did not work. What do you mean by "deleting the entwork group and recreating it".
Also, as I side note I noticed if you go to: DNS on the domain controller and expand forward lookup zones and expand sumc.local (which is the domain name) this specific computer is not listed under there as a HOST(A). All of the other computers are listed.

Try to check the Group Policy, usually things like that can be disabled in there. If not that, then you may want to take a look at or a proxy server.
If you look at the ipconfig /all command does the user pick up all of the proper settings from the DHCP server? Also if you open the command prompt and type "set" press enter does the laptop authenticate to the proper LOGONSERVER?
Can you ping anything on the internet via name or IP addres from cmd? If you can ping sites on the net by IP have you tried doing ipconfig /flushdns?
You can also try a netsh winsock reset from cmd and then try reconnecting to the internet.

Spec01,
The user does receive the proper settings. I can ping things but when I tried to repair the connection I remember it saying ti could make contact with google.com but did not receive a response so it's as if traffic is going out to the internet but not coming back to the laptop.
I will have to try these other commands tomorrow when I have the laptop back on-site.

Issue the laptop with a static address not the same as the dhcp address and see if you can get internet access.
