How can I get an ISCSI drive to format on Mac Leopard 10.5
I am trying to format an ISCSI drive from a REO 4500 San using globalSAN iSCSI initiator. I am able to connect to the drive, and mount the drive, however, when I go to format it, i get an error that says "Disk Insertion, The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer".
When I ignore and go to format the disk, I receive a Disk Input/Output error, and that is all that the logs show. Any help?

I apologize for the delay on this. I have checked, and it looks ok. This is what I get from the Mac Server:
Use Immediate Data: Yes
Max Burst Length 262144
Use Unsolicited Data Outs Yes
Default Time to Wait 2
Max Outgoing Segment Size 8192
First Burst Length 65536
Recovery Level 0
Default Time to Retain 20
Max Connections 1
Initiator 10.0.0.1 Disconnected
Data Digest 0
PDUs Sent 157
State 11
Bytes Sent 30888
Bytes Received 32648
Header Digests 0
PDUs Received 157
Why would the mount/initiator on the Mac show Disconnected, and what can I do to force it. The traditional ISCSI LUN isn't statically fixed on the globalSAN iSCSI client and I don't know what to do on the OS Level.

Your REO 4500 can be configured as disk volumes (LUNs), dynamic virtual tape drives, or a virtual tape library. Can you check the configuration and see that LUNs are enabled?

Lun's are enabled, and this is assigned Lun0. It looks like it's an automatic assignment.

I have a total of 5 initiators/target, 4 connect without issues, however, the Mac is just giving me issues. I'll admit that I'm a gui guy, as I don't know the linux backend on the mac all that well. Your help is most appreciated.
Thank You,
Thank You,
Are you saying that each of 5 initiators connects to it's own target?
And 4 of those pairs work correctly, but this single Mac can not format the target it's connected to?
What OS and initiators are the other 4 running?

Sorry, Yes, that is correct. I have four separate initiators connecting to their own target. These are Win 2k3 servers using Microsoft ISCSI initiator, and the Mac, using globaliSAN iscsi, is the only item that cannot format the drive.

As I have an existing SAN, I'm trying to push forward a potential proof of concept for expansion, however, it's a hard sell if I can't get the drive mounted and formatted. Thanks for the help Maximus....
Just as a test, can you connect that LUN0 to a Windows machine, format it, disconnect. Then try to connect and mount it on the Mac.
There is a new version of globalSAN available - 4.0 Beta. You may want to try that.

I am getting closer. The UI is a pretty big departure from the past.
It mounted, I was able to create a partition, however it wouldn't mount the volume. I am running First Aid right now, and I will update when it is finished.

To No Avail, nadda. I can connect, and the volume is seen, however, when I try to do anything with it, the action errors out.
I was able to mount the volume, however, the minute I try to do anything (create folder, move a file, etc), I get an error. Is there anything in the OS itself that I can configure or troubleshoot?

I can't think of anything you can troubleshoot in the OS itself besides installing a fresh copy of it. Is it possible for you to try a different Mac?

Hmm, new install and still the same issue. Is there any other free ISCSI Initiator software products on the market for Mac? I'm running 10.5.7 server, and I would really like to test this out.
Thank You,

I couldn't get it to work. I was hoping to get a free product to work, atleast one with support.
For an existing technology, I find it strange that Mac doesn't offer native support on their products.

check if the iSCSI target was exported as NOT read-only and NOT allowing simultaneous access - only one initiator can be accessing a read/write target at a time, unless you are using a SAN file system in which case you should not format a target from a client computer.
