We have been experiencing vast problems with viruses/trojans, etc., and think we have worked through most of them. During the process, some files were moved (not by us) and some applications no longer worked.

The current problem we are working on is reloading Office XP. We uninstalled because the application exe files (i.e., for word and excel, etc.)were missing and then tried to reinstall. We received the following error message:

error 1402 setup cannot open registry key hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\optimalcomponent\imail. Verify you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact computer manufacturer's product support for assistance.

I read a previous poster's problem with this and, as per the post, created keys and values for
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\optimalcomponent\imail and
hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\setup\mail (i could be misquoting this one slightly--i don't have the post in front of me).
I then assigned permissions.

I also ran the scannow recommended in the same post.

We are still having the problem. What should we do next? And what information do you need from us?
