I am trying to install Symantec Anti Virus v. 10.1.6.

I keep getting this error, even though I am logged on with an account that has administrator rights to the Windows XP computer.

What can be done to fix this?

It turns out that this problem was being caused because the user's computer already was infected with multiple viruses, which prevented any other programs from being installed.

I performed a System Restore to last week, and was then able to install Symantec Antivirus, which then completely deleted all traces of any viruses.

Thank you to everyone for all of your tips!
I was finally able to resolve this issue on my own.
