Users locked out of their accounts for no reason.
Hi,
Today we have had numerous users failed to login. As they login it reports their accounts are locked. We just unlock their accounts but what could be the cause? Event viewer gives no clue other than the usual client credentials failed.
This doesnt happen to all users, but a large enough quantity to think its not just people entering their details wrong several times.
Any help appreciated.

This can happen if a password policy has been changed.
Each password has a "set date" assigned to it so if a password policy previously asked for a 6monthly change and now asked for a 3 monthly one it can lock people out immediately.
Another alternative is when you are using Outlook Web Access for emails in that the users dont get the "your password will expire in X-amount of days" and suddenly they cant login.

Right, further update. It appears that when users try to access the internet through the proxy their ad accounts lock.
What kind of proxy server are you running?
This sounds likely. Do you use Terminal Services?
