Goldmine problem opening pdf's
Have a customer that is running Goldmine 6.5  When she tries to open a pdf within Goldmine, she gets a message: "...cannot find an associated application for the specified file type".. then she clicks on the 'ok' box. She is then taken to a list of recommended programs, and she clicks on Adobe reader 9.1 to open the file which then works.  When she is outside of Goldmine, she can open up a pdf with no problem which means the acrobat reader association with pdf's is fine with the OS.  What can be done?

Which OS is it? It has always been my understanding that double-clicking the file on the links tab is the equivalent of pasting the entire path of the file into the Start | Run box (then hitting Enter). Please try that.

When she opens the pdf with no problem is she double-clicking the pdf? or is she opening Acrobat and then using File | Open to open it? I'm sorry, I know this last question seems simplistic, and I assume we wouldn't even be here if the answer were the latter.

ASKER

Stevengraff - what do you mean by "the links tab"?  When my clilent open the pdf with no problem she is double-clicking the pdf itself, not opening Acrobat reader first.

When you say "When she tries to open a pdf within Goldmine" I assume you mean she's double-clicking a record on the Links tab within GoldMine. Other possibilities include InfoCenter and Email attachments I suppose. Doesn't really matter... seems like you'd have the same problem no matter. I'm still a little curious... what happens if you paste the path (including file name) into Start | Run and hit Enter?

page 23 of the AdministratingGoldMine document (http://support.frontrange.com/attachments/manuals/goldmine/6/Administrating%20GoldMine.pdf) mentions something relevant...

A contact manager in its most basic form is a software program that enables users to easily store and find contact information, such as names, addresses and telephone numbers. Sophisticated contact managers provide calendar sharing features and allow several people in a company to access the same database. Some contact management systems have evolved into customer relationship management (CRM) systems to analyze and plan for an organization’s interaction with current and future customers.
