Vista will not boot after SP1 installation

I've seen lots of questions (and some answers) about this already but nothing has helped me so I was hoping that someone has come up with solution short of reinstalling Vista.  A Gateway laptop will not boot after installing SP1, the system hangs when trying to start up in Safe Mode, none of the repair options work and the system restore points are missing.  Is there a way to manually uninstall SP1 or a way to manually set the computer back to a point before the SP1 was applied?

I can see the message that a bad patch is preventing the system from starting but can I undo this bad patch somehow!

Have you tried to boot in Safe Mode (F8) and removed the Service Pack?

Yes, the system will not boot into Safe Mode either, it hangs at the file crcdisk.sys, every time.

Any idea on how I can get past that?
Will it boot with any other option? Like Command line?

No, Command line does not work either, it also hangs, Last Known Good Configuration of course does not work, I tried boot logging and debugging.  I can't get it to boot at all.   I can get to a command prompt thru the repair options but that's about it.
Seems futile but I'd suggest running a chkdsk "Chkdsk C: /f". Wouldn't hurt at the very least.
