Have you tried running the "Connect to a Projector" Tool in Windows 7 with the monitor plugged into your VGA port?

I tried that but nothing happened. I also went through the Windows troubleshooting process for hardware devices and they had me download 2 files. One was CIR. The other was something or other like infrared transceiver. Still didn't work.

This seems like a good enough guess as to what's going on, although I can't verify it without having the parallel port on my notebook checked out by a technician, which I'm not going to do because of the expense.<br />

My Acer Aspire 7720G notebook with Windows 7 doesn't find the external monitor when it's plugged in to the parallel port, but it shows up right away on my husband's Dell, so it's working fine. Anyone know what I can do to resolve this?

Why isn't my external monitor working?
