Vsphere Boot From SAN

Last Modified: 2012-05-08
Any strong arguments for or against booting from SAN.  We have always booted locally, but all of our other servers boot from san and it is very convenient.  Any pros and cons would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with above post.  Also to keep in mind is that if you're having problems with the SAN you don't have the service console to troubleshoot from the ESX side service console

Thanks for the info.  We do utilize rdm's, can you elaborate on why it is not a good idea to boot from san when using rdm's?

The reasons would be the same with or without RDMs.
we do it for vmware esxi servers. runs great. I can recommend it.
If you are using 10GBe, is FC really necessary to guarantee performance to the ESX hosts?
