Incorrect key file for table 'soft_data'; try to repair it

Hi,
Bit of an emergency!... :S

I attempted to figure out the syntax needed to explain an index on a table in a live production database, stupid I know...

Now I get this error and the table is offline, rendering the site useless. Incorrect key file for table 'soft_data'; try to repair it.

I've attempted to repair it and I get this:
nzua9c8.soft_data      repair      Error      Incorrect key file for table 'soft_data'; try to r...
nzua9c8.soft_data      repair      error      Corrupt

Is there anything I can do to resurrect this table?

Thanks.

Hi,

I've run this query and it still outputs:
nzua9c8.soft_data      repair      Error      Incorrect key file for table 'soft_data'; try to r...
nzua9c8.soft_data      repair      error      Corrupt

I can't download a dump of the database it gets as far as the corrupt table and stops... :S

None of the above works...

So I take it there's no way to resurrect this?

I have PHPMyAdmin access. This is what I've been running the queries on. I do have SSH access, but it's asking me to set up a private key, and use something like putty, which I've downloaded and tried, but can't connect. I'm not familiar enough with SSH to use it in that way.

Thanks for the help so far. :)

I've asked them to provide the files... If they won't provide those, I'll attempt to gain SSH access and get back to you.

With SSH, what do you think the chances (with your help) that I'll be able to get at least some of the data back?

Thanks.

Hi,

Luckily, the host had a backup of the database. They restored it to a resent one and after running REPAIR, all tables are showing OK.

Thank you for the help ushastry. :)
You are welcome.
