'Webcam' is sort of a broad description. In general I view a webcam as a device that uses the computer for the bulk of the processing, this is pretty much what any USB based camera device is. It sends the raw images to the PC which handles all the heavy work of making sense of the data. This does not lend itself well to wireless because of the bandwidth required to do the job. These usually show up as a 'device' directly connected to the computer.
Now there are IP camera's which many people also call 'webcams' but these are much different in that they usually a complete stand alone device that sits directly on a network. This is what is commonly used for network based security cameras. These will not show up as a device connected directly to the computer but can be viewed as a video stream through a browser or custom software.
I do not believe Skype supports any IP camera's at this point. Somebody created a virtual driver to get a Linksys IP camera to work but that project looks to be dead.

What this does is make it look like a video stream from an external IP camera is a directly connected webcam.
Probably you best bet would be to look at wireless USB camera's. These are usually a analog wireless camera that has a receiver that connects to the computer directly. So it looks like any or other 'wired' webcam. Unfortunately this is not really something available through mainstream vendors.
Though you could get a USB capture device like these,

And combine them with a wireless analog camera, usually 900 Mhz or 2.4 GHz. Here's an example,

You can likely find these wireless analog cameras in a local home depot or Radio Shack. (or whatever would be the local equivalent stores in your side of the world)
There are also a few universal wireless USB adapters/hubs that may allow you to make any USB camera 'wireless'.

Bit of a mixed bag on performance. I've not seen one that is both cost effective and truely universal in device support.

Unfortunately the top names in Webcams is Logitech and microsoft and none of them are coming out. I trust Logitech products entirely and otherwise would pretty much go by reviews by users on sites like Amazon.com for the brand you are interested in.
Good luck,
Anthony
