I am testing MS SBS 2003 R2 Backups to another similar system using the restore function. I am doing this now to learn what needs to be done using this backup and restore method. I know there are better ways to backup but I still want to have other options available just in case. You can't have too many backups.

I have successfully restored a majority of the system to another system but not the AD information. I did have to use the restore advanced options to get the system to restore. I have read several of the MS bulletins but seem to be missing a step or I am not on the right track.

I also want to be familiar with a procedure of putting the restored system on line and what needs to be done at that point.

Is it possible just to restore the AD and Exchange mail and nothing else?

Using the built-in SBS 2003 backup you will need to follow the linked Microsoft method as per my previous post. That is a full restore.
