McDonalds WiFi HotSpot - problem connecting

I use a HTC Touch HD mobile phone.

Until recently, I was able to get onto the Web whilst at the local McDonalds.

I can connect using WiFi and it gives me an IP address, but when I try to open a web page or my phone tries to remotely ActiveSync with my Exchange Server, a window comes up with the following message:

Status: The service is initializing, please try again later.

(There is a box above the message, which I think once had a McDonalds Terms & Conditions agreement, but the box is now blank).

I get the same screen using either Internet Explorer or Opera.

I have tried refreshing the site page and removing any old cookies, but without success.

When I am out of range of the McDonalds WiFi, I can connect to the internet and ActiveSync fine using the mobile phone service (Telstra). It also works fine when connected via WiFi at my home network.

Does anyone have any suggestions that may help?

My guess is that there should be a Terms and Conditions box to tick so that I will be allowed Web access, but it does not appear on the screen.

Follow the steps below.

1. Do a soft reset;

2. Connect to McDonalds WiFi HotSpot;

3. Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar, type the website address of google or Yahoo.

4. You shall be prompted with a "log on" page for accepting McDonalds Terms & Conditions agreement.

If you do not see that page, close  Internet Explorer and repeat Steps 3 & 4 above. You may need to try a few times before you can get that page.

If still not successful, backup all your personal data and applications and do a hard reset.
Agreed. We did the Wifi installations at McDonalds for Free-hotspot.com
You must indeed accept the terms of conditions fefore you can surf the web.
Free-hotspot.com however still has problems showing the page on a mobile device.
By now, I hope, the problem should be fixed.

Is there a way to force the browser to display the Terms & Conditions? A direct address perhaps?
I think your phone is setup to auto synch to exchange when connected to wifi,
Firstly i would turn this off. then try re connect to the wi fi
On my HTC Touch Pro 2, I have to turn off "Microsoft Direct Push" before connecting.  I'm not sure how similar the interface is on your phone, but on mine it works like this:

Start/Settings/Communications, then turn off "Microsoft Direct Push" before turning on "Wi-fi".  Once you have made the connection, you can turn direct push back on.  The problem is that, as soon as you turn on Wi-fi, direct push tries to use that route, which isn't open yet because your browser hasn't completed the "check in" process with McDonalds.  That hangs the connection.
I'll give each of those suggestions a try (except the rather extreme one about hard-resetting my phone) next time I'm at McDonald's and let you know how it goes.
Okay. Hard resetting the device would indeed not cover the fairure.
good luck!
