Cannot open Access database which is already open

Hi Experts

Working with Access databases located on a central shared drive, I am unable to open databases that are already opened by other users (even if the database was created and is 'owned' by me). Other colleagues do not always experience this.  Asking colleagues to close a database so that I may open it on my PC should not be necessary.

How can I fix this?
