How to allow Ping on SBS Server???
I have a server running SBS 2003
The only thing running on this machine is an IIS FTP service. It uses the directory access security within IIS Manager to allow only certain IP addresses access. There is no firewall active - even the windows firewall says it cannot start because another service or program is running that is using IPNAT - All of the clients accessing the site do so through a proxy server - making it accessible only through the one IP address. When the client site tries to ping the SBS server - they get a request timed out.
I was requested to allow them to ping the server so that when they experience any difficulty - they can easily tell if my site is live. - Is there a way for me to enable it so they can ping it from this address? I have looked over the network adapter configurations - but I do not know if I am looking in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated

I cannot ping it from my location either - and I am not going through a proxy server. Try pinging it yourself 74.94.179.49

My address is added to the Directory security - I could add yours too if you need
Hi,
With above setting you should be able to PING from inside the LAN with IP address atleast, if youa are trying to PING from WAN than make sure you have allowed ICMP packets to pass through your firewall/router.

The directory security is for FTP service only
OK, just to clarify:
You have an SBS Server 2003 running an FTP server (74.94.179.49) with NO firewall (software or hardware) which is using IIS manager to lock down IP addresses for access?

Hi,
But you would must have a Router which is connecting you to internet, I am asking you to check if you have allowed ICMP packets to pass through it.

Thanks - I had an idea it was not me
Depending on how the proxy is set up it will not allow a ping packet through and therefore no return packets will be sent.
