How can I remove the icon for a program installed on my hard drive?

I downloaded a freeware icon-making program (img2icns05). When I open to install the program (which works well, by the way), I can't get the program icon removed from the desktop (see image).  I downloaded the program two ways, once directly to the desktop which usually works, but when I dragged the program file onto the hard drive, it wouldn't go there and instead an alias was made.  Then I downloaded the program onto my hard drive itself, opening it in the program files, and the img2icns05 icon showed up on the desktop when I tried to open the program (which also works great).  Right now,  the program is closed, I see the icon for the program in my dock. How can I get rid of or relocate that little white program driver icon from the desktop?  I don't like that it stays there even when the program is closed.  Help.

Click on it and press Apple + E or Drag it to the trash.

jgraham87 - thank you, but this doesn't work, that is: yes, I can drag it to the trash so it is off of my desktop, but if I empty the trash, the program (via clicking on it's icon in the docking station) no longer works.  In other words, it appears that the information needed to run the program is in that folder.  Any other ideas?

What you will need to do is this...
Make the white drive come back... Double click the file you downloaded.
Once you have it back, move the files inside the drive to your applications folder.
Once it is in applications you will be able to eject/delete the white drive.

You can create an icon on your dock by dragging the icon from applications to the dock.
This still does not work. Even when I take everything over into the applications, and then click on the program icon (those crazy scissors), it still puts that white drive back on the desktop.

Does it have anything to do with being an older version? is that some kind of glitch that got fixed in later versions?  See photo for url to this site.  Please let me know if you can download it and get rid of that white drive.

Also, it's important to note.... this is freeware that lets me make icons directly from images.  When you open the program, there's a little drop box---you drag your image there, tell it what kind of icon you want, and voila.  It's pretty fantastic.  However, I am not attached to this particular program since that white drive is going to annoy me.  So if you can suggest alternative icon-making software, that's great.  I've tried about a million tutorials on how to do so in Photoshop, and I gave up.  This little program is a gem.
Just in case you can't read the pdf.

Are there files inside of the white drive?
I think so... at least, there is the scissors icon that starts the program.  When I double-click on the white drive to see what's inside, I get what is seen in image Step 3a above.
Move the file that is displayed in 3a to applications.
I've done that already.  See the list of items in Applications in Step 2.... it's right above the .dmg.  It was a failed attempt to do what you suggested.  Were you able to download the program and successfully run it without the white drive?  Other suggestions/ideas?
I just tried downloading this program to test the install for myself, it doesn't actually download a .dmg file, I just go the actual application file? which when I double clicked it it asked me did I want to move it to my applications folder?

http://www.img2icnsapp.com/  -  from this link it downloads a self extracting .zip file that create the application

what version of OS X are you using? I had no problems using 10.6 SL
D-Fens, thanks for this info.  However, I have to use the older version (see red circled image above) because I have 10.4.11  Thus, it does not surprise me that you don't have problems with the newer version.  Did you try the older version?
Here is what it should look like...

Exactly what jgraham87 said, unless on Tiger there is some problem if you're using the wrong version of the software
Ok. You all win for persistence.  I swear I did everything you all suggested, like 20 times, and even what jgraham87 said---this time it worked.  Thank you all so much for your patience.  I'd like to think I'm not a Mac Moron, that I can easily load programs, but this one threw me for a loop.  Thanks again!
