VMware VIC and ESX 3.5 to manage ESXi?
I have a VMware esx 3.5 environment with 4 nodes, virtual infrastructure centre server etc.
I have a remote site with a 2 blade servers in a DELL chassy with a small hitachi fibre attached SAN.
I would like to deploy ESXi to the 2 blade servers in the Dell chassy use the primary site's VIC server to manage them as a separate data centre. I guess i would have HA or DRS, but manual management would be fine. Its really a DC, file server and a couple of apps servers.
Would it be possible to create new data centre with esxi installed on both nodes and manage it all using the virtual infrastructure client?
I get that you use the VIC to manage ESXi, i am not so sure about the limitations with more than one node and esxi.
Could we run ESXI from a USB key instead of removing the existing OS while we virtualise the existing server OSs? eg ESXi on node1, p2v node 2 and then reverse?
Can ESXi handle HBA connection to fibre SAN ?
