Set up VPN or access shared folder from outside?

Last Modified: 2013-11-30
Just wanted to set up a VPN.  Ultimately, I just have a user who will be working remotely.  She needs to log in our Active Directory from home so she has access to the shared drives.

I have a Windows 2003 Server as Domain Controller and a W2003 as our File server.  Sonicwall Firewall Pro1260.  User has XP Pro SP3 at her home office

There are two things I can think of on finding a solution for this but I need your advise on what would be a better option.

1.  Set up a VPN?  or Just simply figure out how to share the folder on the File server outside the network?  Because all she needs to do is access files on the shared folder.   Which would be faster?

2.  If VPN do I need to do some kind of NAT configuration on the Firewall?  ie from WAN to the DC machine IP or WAN to the Fileserver machine's IP?  What ports are associated with this?

Current conifig is user is RDCing to a machine here in the office.  But I want to not do that anymore.

Pleae help :)  thank you
