Maybe the PC have installed/uninstall some application or plugins that leaves this error.
Try to remember if someone installed new applications before this kind of error appears, is so easy to break windows when some applications are installed, worse, after uninstall some apps leaves things crippled.
If you don't remember/know what application was installed to open mp3 files, look for the mp3 file with Windows Explorer, Rigth-click on the file and see what appears in the "Open with" submenu (see fig), if you see more than one app assinged to open this file, signs are that other app was used to open mp3s and try to check if you need to uninstall o re-install or update this apps.
Finally check por codec packs installed, there are some packs on the wild with virus or maybe corrupted.
