jucheck.exe on windows 7

I am setting up a brand new, DELL optiplex 780, with windows 7 pro 64 bit.  I am getting a blue and yellow shield that says jucheck.exe is requesting permission.  I wanted to find out if this is safe.  I am assuming "ju" is for "java update", but I am not sure.

Please let me know if possible.

Thank you.

I am also seeing the same blue and yellow shield in the sign up for office updates (office 2007).  Is this new blue/yellow shield part of windows 7 OS.
It is NOT the Java Updater. That's JUSCHED.exe.  I've read JUCHECK.exe is a Trojan and not native to Windows 7.  I don't have it on my Win7 box, but it was upgraded from Vista.

I just went to Sun's Java site and searched for jucheck.exe and nothing came up...
jucheck.exe is used for Java's Update Check feature. It contact's Sun's servers and looks for updates. In some cases, it is actually a virus. Please review this article:

MatthewRock, your link (which I also posted above) states in step 7 that it is not the updater for Java.

Thanks!
what is the full message and when exactly do you et it?
Do you get it when trying to run something or it just pops up ?
Usually jucheck.exe is produced by Sun, and checks for Java updates.
The jucheck.exe process will check on the internet for available updates for the Java Virtual machine installed on your computer. If updates are available it will notify you and/or manage the download and install of the updates. You should leave this process running in order to keep your Java virtual machine up to date, unless it is causing problems for your system.
IF it is located where it is supposed to be usually something like C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jucheck.exe  or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Designer 8.2\jre\bin
then its OK.
Otherwise it can be a trojan.

Also check Java for x64.

thank you!
You are correct that JUcheck is for Java Update.  It's certainly safe, but I usually disable the service to save system resources.
