Windows updates fail with 0x80096003
I'm on a client's domain controller and exchange server trying to get the 50-some-odd updates. All fail to download, aborting partway through. No other system has this issue in their domain.

So far, I've renamed C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution, reregistered the DLLs and flushed MSIE caches.

The server is Windows 2003 Server standard edition with SP2, with Trend Micro AV running. I didn't see any out of the ordinary add-ons in MSIE7.

I've attached the latest WindowsUpdate.log file to see if that'll help.

try going to c:\windows & deleteing the blue file names that start with a $. Then delete any %temp% files. Then reboot your computer & run the updates again.

I reckon you may have missed them
For instance, under the " Automatic Updates " heading, at the end it
says " These dll files can be registered in an automatic way by
downloading and clicking twice on this file. "

'On this file' is a link to download them, just click once on it.
After double clicking the first .cmd file downloaded, restart the system
to see if that cures the issue. If not, go to the next heading and
download the file from the provided link.
SAVE them, do NOT run them.
Close the browser and start with the first .cmd file.

You need to download this and then install from the command line.

Running this command from the command prompt will confirm whether or not WSUS is applied

You should go over all the steps in these even if the error codes dont match. It seems to be some type of certificate issue that you're having.

Tough one since there's not much documentation on this specific error.  I've solved many WSUS/windows update errors, but never seen this one before.
