outgoing emails stuck in queue folder while sending from sharepoint

I am unable to send emails from sharepoint, i noticed that there is a problem with my smtp server settings. I am able to send emails from .net code using smtpclient but with basic authentication using NetworkCredential class only , if i dont use basic authentication then emails are stucked in queue folder.
All alerts/notifications based emails from sharepoint are stucked in queue folder.
I gave my server IP address in outgoing email settings  in central administration in moss2007.
and i gave basic authentication in smtp server, but not able to send emails, got stucked in queue.
Please help me on this issue.

We are using the IIS 6.0's SMTP Service and the mails are struck inside this Queue folder. I have tried removing Firewall, Setting DisableLoopBackCheck and all of that, but nothing really seems to be working. I am running Windows Server 2003 SP2. Can you kindly help?

sounds like you have a permission setting conflict on your SMTP server permissions. What do you have permissions set to? What are your relay settings set to?

But this is the IIS SMTP Server, do I need to give permissions here too? Can you help me with this? I am actually trying to send emails to emaild ids all belonging to one company @xx.com. These email alerts are the ones generated by Out of the Box Workflows from SharePoint. How do I troubleshoot this now and what settings do I need to provide?

yes you will still have to configure your permissions and relay settings in the IIS SMTP server.
see this link for all the configuration options you have with SMTP\
