WAMP - Allow remote access to MySQL

Hi,

I have MySQL set up on a windows server. I wish to migrate to a new server running WAMP.

I installed WAMP just fine, and now I want to conect to MySQL with the MySQL Admininistrator tool so I can restore my backups.

When I open the MySQL adminitrator and enter the IP address of my new WAMP server,I get an error Number 1130 (Host 'xxxx' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server'

How do I configure MySQL in WAMP such that I am allowed to use the MySQL tool to conect as root in order to perform administrative tasks?

Note - security is not the primary concern here - ease of use is. This is only being used internally. I'm quite happy to open it up to ALL remote hosts so that I can use the tool on other machines...

Thanks.

I know you're saying you'll allow root access from any host, but its just as easy to create a new user with all privileges. Its safer, as an attacker will try the username root first. Create another username with privileges from all hosts.

Open a dos prompt on the server you wish to be able to connect to

Start -> cmd

type
mysql -u root --password=<insert your password>

then, from the mysql prompt, do

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO user@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
