Custom A Record with Server 20000

I am trying to add a custom A record to our internal DNS servers that points elsewhere outside of our domain.  The problem is I cannot add the FQDN to our zone, if I create a new zone it hoses all the dns requests to the other domain.  So what is a simple way just to add an A record to the fqdn host in this situation?

Create a new forward lookup zone with the FQDN of whatever name you want to redirect (for example www.domain.com).
Then in that zone, create a new Host (A) entry, leave the name field *empty*, and enter only the IP address.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense after I looked at it.
