Could not find users.dbf....

Getting error while installing. See image. Installing GoldMine Premium Ed. 8.5.1 on Win2k3 R2 32-bit. SQL Server 2005 Std. is on the same server. Cannot find users.dbf. I checked & that file is not in the Goldmine install directory.

Call FrontRange tech support at 800/776-7889. You should never see this error with GoldMine PE 8.5.1.

Hi iccarter,

GoldMine premium does not use DBF files anymore.

It sounds like you have chosen to upgrade a goldmine standard installation or goldmine 6.7 Corporate installation?

Are you installing an upgrade or a fresh install?

One correction: I am installing to Win2k3 R2 64-bit OS.

No, I am installing a fresh copy (no previous files anywhere).

What options are you selecting when installing

It does sound like it thinks you have GoldMine already installed.

Did you have an older goldmine installed on this machine in the past?

if so you could try the following

Open Regedit and locate
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths

Remove any entries for GMW*.exe

Ensure there is no c:\program files\goldmine\ folder on the system as the installer will look here also.

gmgenius may be on the right track, but... I have never seen this error message before, and you should never see it with any version of GoldMine after 7.0. Along with GoldMine 8.x you should have a Maintenance Agreement that entitles you to support from FrontRange. I highly suggest that you call them and let them deal with this.

While you are correct steven , he can call support, I have seen this message before when a previous installation of GM was found.

The GM installer is not perfect and has a few issues even now

My best answer is to check for any previous residual install of GM before you attempt this again. as per my previous post.

Sorry I forgot there is also another registry location you can remove

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\FrontRange Solutions

gmgenius, you're right; if he removes the App Path entry and retries the install, he should be able to complete it without GoldMine trying to import a "legacy" users table.

I worked with tech. support (FrontRange) & determined that the version installed (8.5.1) has issues with 64-bit OS. Support sent me new version (8.5.2.8) & that installed with no issues. All fixed. Thanks for responding so quickly, I surely will need you help as we are taking on GM for the 1st time.

So, "Call FrontRange tech support at 800/776-7889" was useful? Should be worth points, eh?

stevengraffCommented:
Author followed advice given in first response to question, i.e. call software publisher for help. This should warrant an A or B grade, with points.

I'm sorry but I had already called tech. support before stevengraff gave his advice.

Also,  the answer given is always the answer! Calling tech. support should fix just about any problem eventually. Why not give the advice, "hire a subject matter expert & pay them"? I just can't see awarding points for advising someone to have someone else fix it. That requires no expertise.

1. Question was posted (and answered) on 12/16. Author  "worked with tech. support (FrontRange)" on 12/17. Why would you keep posting after you had the solution?

2. Many questions here are awarded points when answered simply by a link to another person's work... how would this be different?

3. An expert has saved you time by telling you not to spin your wheels trying to find a quick fix "in the community," but by calling the publisher, because the publisher would likely have the answer more directly.

4. An expert recognized that, as a version 8.5 customer you'd be entitled to the support you paid for through the software publisher.

5. To not award points says that you're stingy with points, and that your questions should be ignored in the future.
