Deleted email addresses keep coming back

In active directory for server 2003, I add a new email address, set it as the primary address, delete the old email address and hit apply. This seems to work, and even if I close active directory and open it again, the changes stick. However, when i log off the server and log back on, the old email address reappears and is set as the primary address. The new address still remains, but it is no longer set as the primary address. Does anybody know why this weirdness is happening?

I would suggest a Group Policy might be overriding it. Do you have a Group Policy that assigns email addresses? If so, that might be it.

This setting is in AD Users and Computers by the way, in the properties of your user account, where you added the new email address.
