Exchange 2010 coexistence with Exchange 2003

Hi there,

I currently have an exchange 2010 and exchange 2003 server in coexistence. I have pointed all the ports on my router from the old server to the new server. When I try to access a mailbox on the 2010 server through OWA I have no issues. However when I try to access one on the 2003 server I get the following error:

Your request couldn't be completed because no server with the correct security settings was found to handle the request. If the problem continues, contact your helpdesk.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you accessing it by going to http://servername/exchange rather than /owa

also there is an issue with Exchange 2007/2010 proxying for 2003 if they have mailboxes on them.

The options are move all the mailboxes to 2010 sooner rather than later or setup a temporary CAS server to proxy for both of them.

I am trying to access externally. /excahnge gets redirected to /owa.

So there's no way to access the mailboxes on 2003 without adding a seperate CAS server?
The CAS role cannot proxy for older mailboxes if it has the mailbox role.

How many mailboxes you talking about?
They can be moved fairly easily.  Your best bet is to get the 2003 mailboxes moved to the 2010 server.

Otherwise you will need to change all your rules again
Talking about 60 mailboxes. So I need to switch http/s back to the old server?
60 mailboxes shouldn't take to long to move.
Now you have everything configured I would just move the mailboxes.
Cant do that as of yet as we are still waiting for a blackberry patch to work with exchange 2010. BES 4.1
According to this it's already available as of last week: http://msexchangeteam.com/
Although it does talk about BES5
Yh that is only for BES5. Need a Service Pack for BES 4.1 for it to work.

So the mailbox role is the inhibiting factor here?
yes, if the CAS has the mailbox role on it (I am not sure if it makes a difference if there are mailboxes in it or not) then as far as I am aware and certainly I have witnessed it not proxying for 2003.
Don't hold your breath for an update for BES 4.1 to be patched for Exchange 2010 support.
However it does work, you will not be supported, but it can be made to work. I have a blog posting in progress on how to make it work, but I have a working system here using BES 4.1.4 and Exchange 2010.

Simon.
Blackberry said that they are coming out with a patch for it soon after the release though. I called them and verified with them.
Are you sure that they got the versions correct?
The only thing that RIM have announced for Exchange 2010 is the updates for BES 5.0 support. I haven't heard even a rumour of anything at all for BES 4.1.x. Plus as I have discovered, it isn't required.

Simon.
Well I called them and asked them for my version specifically and they said that yes they're going to be coming out with support for version 4.1. What did you do to get it working? Just repoint the mapi profile?
I think we are digressing from the question, just a little?

Ate you implementing a temporary CAS?
No we are not going to be able to do that as we do not have another 2008 server
I implemented Exchange 2010 rollup 1 and then made some changes to the permissions, in a slightly different way to how it was done for Exchange 2007. Worked straight away.

Simon.
Can you show us the permissions changes you made so that we can duplicate the process?
