# open files in sessions\# open files for two users was over 16,000 and file server froze up

Our file server keeps feezing and locking people out of the share. SOmetimes it will just not let them save there work.. Nothing unusual appears in any of the logs when this happens. Memory, cpu, pagefile etc all bormal. The only odd thing I noticed was whn I went to compter management \ shared Folders \ sessioms the number of open files displayed for two of the users was over 16,000
These workstations did not appear to be ruinning any unucual apps.
What exactly does the # open files under shared Folders measure.
   Thanks

Hi thanks, yes it is a 2003 server and we had two users that had reached the 16,383 open file limit but there was nothing on there workstations that would explain this number of open files so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what could cause this.

This did not address what was causing all of these open files which I might not have stated clearly was my question.

I found that a few users had indexing running on their workstations and this seemed to be causing the huge numbers of open files.
