Need to setup a package to distibute new java update   jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe
However, each package I put together doesn't work, I tried jre-6u17-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe -s at the command line and that didn't work either, what command line do I need to give the program so that this java update will push through SCCM?

    Accepted Solution

Start the installer but don't go through any of the steps.  While it's running, browse to %appdata%\Sun\Java.  Copy the jre1.6.0_17 folder to a network location and push the software using the file under it named jre1.6.0_17.msi.

    Assisted Solution

I have not tested the MSI Solution, however this solution worked for me. Download the java update from As of this comment the file name is jre-6u18-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe.

Create a package and use this on the command line

    jre-6u18-windows-i586-iftw-rv.exe /s EXPLORER=1

Here is the Collection I advertise to:

    select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System inner join SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS on SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.ResourceID = SMS_R_System.ResourceId where SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.DisplayName like "Java(TM) 6 Update%" and SMS_G_System_ADD_REMOVE_PROGRAMS.Version < "6.0.180"

I was mistaken about running the java exe. Straight from the download. Shift-3 is correct. Here is a link to the article from

How do I deploy Java using Active Directory across a network =

I am not using Group Policy (Active Directory) to deploy the software. I am using SMS so my Collection above still stands.
