password problem

in this brand new Wn7PCi setup one user, and gave a password (it asked to type it only once).. Since I was not sure I was logged in as admin,I tried to log off and log in again, but my password does not work. If I put the password I think I gave, it takes a while and says 'Welcome' but after 30 seconds or so, comes back to the original screen saying user name or password is wrong.

When I ask to reset the password, it says it need a password reset program, and I had not set it up, so far.

is there any light in this situation?

thanks

Have you tried the password you configured with CAPS LOCK on and OFF?

I suggest using the NT Offline Password Editor utility. There is an excellent guide for how to use it at:

I've used it many times with great success.

I tend to favour the Ultimate Boot CD:
http://www.ubcd4win.com/

it has lots of other great utilities too!

You will need to boot from the CD and set the password to blank <null>

That is a great idea, and I did try the caps lock, but no go.. i even gave the appropriate hint..

does win7 ask only the password only once?

Glen KnightCommented:
The bios option is dependent on hardware.

It will either be F2, DEL sometimes ESC

When you set the password it should ask you twice.

I don't think it will let you set a blank password during setup.

Have you tried the username as the password?

NT Offline Editor does work on Windows 7.

NT Offline will let you specify which account you want to blank (suggested) or change the password for.

Glen KnightCommented:
As dies UBCd you have the option to select the account you want to reset.

As far as I am aware most of them you have to set a blank password rather than a new password.

Boot the system using the WIndows 7 DVD into  recovery or boot using the recovery partition (usually the F10 key during boot-up).  Select the option for Windows System Restore.  Choose a restore point PRIOR to the time when the original password was entered.  Allow system restore to do its job - it will re-boot. 2x-click on your user icon at logon screen.

Unlike other systems W7 has no 'Administrator' account.
The 1st person that logs in IS the administrator.
So far,I have not found a password reset option that will work on W7.
Your best option is to reinstall once more.
Those password crackers (aside security risks) , will take ages to find your password.
If you have a strange password that is not in the dictionary, then 'ages' is the right word.
Beside, reinstalling will take you much less time.
