I use AirSharing -http://avatron.com/apps/air-sharing

For FREE iPhone apps try
AirDisk - http://www.apptism.com/apps/airdisk
or
Dropbox - https://www.dropbox.com/

26070119 - it's a bit strange solution. So it is the same as to send an email to myself and open it on iPhone.

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
pgnatyuk - NO, the AirSharing & AirDisk are FTP clients that allow you to transfer from your PC to the iPhone over WiFi

Dropbox is more like a centralised web-based sharing solution.

None of the solutions use email to transfer files.

Yes, I understand. Thanks, it is an option.
Actually I even didn't think about this problem (browsing, file transfer) till I read this question. :(
Many years I worked only with Windows Mobile. Now for iPhone, from X-Code, I put my application on my iPhone, or something from iTune, email always works,... so seems like it is not that important to have File Browsing feature for the phone.

Ok... kind of confuse.  My phone is conencted via usb with iTune.  I would like to use some sort of apps that I can click a drive or a folder, open up iphone and save data (like text files, pdf, etc.).  I'm not too familiar with FTP but willing to give it a try if not too complicated.

As for AirDisk, it looks like it needs to be on the internet.  And for the Dropbox, it seems as to it would save data to Dropbox server (which I dont like).

I looking for for a simple file-transfer between my PC to my iPhone (and it could be the other wat around, iPhone to PC, but a must).

If it will be "Wireless USB Drive": Servers Man?
http://itunes.apple.com/il/app/serversman/id302133974?mt=8

Probably, you have to accept the negative answer for now.
I've said, I even didn't think about it. Email, internet,... everything's on iPhone. Probably, other people think the same, so we still don't have such functionality.
I do not know a lot about iPhone (ask me about WM to compare), I can guess, that Apple still has not publish an iTune (or XCode Organizer) interface.

Small correction: Apple Filing Protocol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Filing_Protocol

FileApp:

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
Read up on serverman; i don't understand: i will have my data on thier server? why do I need an account?  its like dropbox

pgnatyukCommented:
I don't know. :(
I've tried FileApp and Discover - I don't like it (or, in other words, it just does not work).
I do use DropBox and it works. And this is free.
I use email too.

Yes, I saw the same with FileApp. Probably, here is a way to fix everything. But I just switched back to DropBox.

Did you try AirDisk?
AirDisk - http://www.apptism.com/apps/airdisk
it works in a similar way to FileApp
0

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
I did, but isn't AirDisk supposed to use some sort of server? I mean I have to open an account and have my files in thier server?  (i tried all recommended here, but I'm not sure if AIrdisk is like this)

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
In essence, if FTP is the solution, I need to transfer to the FTP to specific folder I want....can Airdisk do this?
0

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
Ramante, if you took a few minutes to try out AirDisk you might understand it better.

1. AirDisk DOES NOT use a 3rd party server or website that you need to register on.
2. AirDisk is a small FTP server application that runs on your iPhone.  You open a web browser, connect DIRECTLY to the iPhone over a special port and upload files from within your browser.
3. You can create folders and upload files to your iPhone from ANY PC with WiFi enabled.

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
ok... will try (can I create folder from my PC via the FTP to place in the iPhone?)
0

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
You create the Folder using AirDisk on the iPhone .. or using our web browser .. and then you upload the files into that folder.
If you are using the FTP client .. you CAN drag & drop  a folder from your PC

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
ok... will try ...by any chance, do you know of another FTP apps (we would likt to try a few that u guys know it works ok)

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
I've given you 3 .. that work
AirSharing
AirDisk
Dropbox

and there's FileApp

After that .. look on the iTunes Store

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
eoinosullivan,  i did tried your links.  Unfortunate AirSharing isn't free and the link for AirDisk keeps giving an error when trying to download via iTunes.

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
any suggestions?
0

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
Ramante - It looks like AirDisk is no longer supported on iTunes.

Looks like if you want a FREE solution then you'll have to choose FileApp or Dropbox otherwise you will need to spend a few $$ for AirSharing (which is a good app).

Sorry but the answer seems to be .. you have to spend a few $$ or go with the FREE options already discussed.

Can you close the question and allocate points.

Thank you

thats what I was seeing, no other options.  I used FileApp, and it seems to work, but the problem I am having is when transferring, I can't move it to a specific areas; that is, to my picture area, or notes area which ae the only places I need to copy to.

Prior closing the question, can you comment on this?
0

rayluvsAuthor Commented:
any comments on why i can't move it to a specific areas with FileApp?
0

Eoin OSullivanConsultantCommented:
Ramante - You CANNOT move Photos or Notes from FileApp or any of these other programs into the iPhone Notes or iPhone Photo Apps.

FileApp, AirSharing, DropBox are NOT designed to interact with the other iPhone apps (such as Notes or Photos).

FileApp creates a folder on the iPhone that allows you to upload ANY file to your iPhone but you have to use the FileApp program to view them.

If you want to manage your Notes, Photos then the only tool I've used is  PhoneView (it is NOT free!!)
