How can we backup the xen virtual machines? We are running xen on 64bit SLES. Is there any software etc or command to take the backup of VMs?

I export them to an external usb drive.

    attach drive.

    Fdisk etc.. ext3..

    mount (eg: mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/disk)

    Xe vm-list

look at the uuid that you want to export.

Make sure that it is offline (it must be offline)

    xe vm-export uuid=whatevertheuuidis filename=/mnt/disk/BLAHBLAH.xva

See the following links for more information:

If you need help formatting in Linux - - Be sure to see all 3 parts!

    And Most importantly:

Search that document for vm-export, it will also give you information on how to backup just the metadata.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Just do the above commands from the console tab, or use putty to ssh to your xenserver.
