check the box Automatically detect settings using Registry(Group Policy)

Experts,
I would need help in making the changes in HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/currentversion/Internetsettings/connections/defaultsettings. which would help me to check the box Automatically detect settings in IE.(internetoptions/connections/lansettings)

Hello collaberait,

Start Menu > Run > regedt32
HKCU is HKEY CURRENT USER
Use the left pane to go to your key.
To expand the folder , click on [+]

I am able to go till the HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/currentversion/Internetsettings/connections/defaultsettings

but in default settings ,what value do i need to place??

I think the best way (as I mentioned in the original question), would be to set a test machine up with the required default settings, and export that reg value to a reg file. You can then deploy that to your machines using whichever method you prefer, as long as the reg file is executed on each target machine. Not sure exactly how you would go about doing that in group policy.

The 5th digit in that binary value handles the "automatically detect settings" checkbox, an odd number means unticked, even is ticked.
