Exchange Email Export / POP3 Question

Hello,
I have a user who is currently using a local workstation to connect to outlook 2003 to check their emails (logs onto domain); we are using an Exchange 2007 server.

This person is now leaving the company and I need to export / download their all of their email (including archived data)  to their personal laptop. What is the best way for this person to get all their email and be able to access it without logging onto the domain in future? I have tried exporting the PST file from Exchange but there seems to be security issues.

Would using POP3 to download their email work? Or would they still need to logon to the domain for authentication?

What security issues are you having? Are the secuirty issues due to it being a personal laptop and not part of the domain?  If this is the case export on a domain machine or the exchange server itself and then just copy the .pst files over to the laptop.

how would i export on the domain machine? will that PST file then be accessible with any credential?

I suggest you log in as that user and create a local PST and just start coping.  Make sure the PST is in a writable location for that user. (i.e Desktop).  You may want to use the Export option under the file menu to make things go more smoothly.

What does it mean to be "Always On"?

Is your cloud always on? With an Always On cloud you won't have to worry about downtime for maintenance or software application code updates, ensuring that your bottom line isn't affected.

you would have to log on as the user themself or log on as an admin and then configure outlook to connect with the users credentials.

Another option could be to use the outlook backup utility (again, you should log on as the user) and it will create local .pst files for you

great thanks, then is it possible to make a .pst file accessible to any user? or will that .pst only be accessible by the user that created it?
